H.S. Class of 1993 Expectations for age 40

When they were in their senior year of high school, the LSAY Cohort Two participants (7th grade fall of 1987) were asked to think about the things they expected to do by the time they were 40 years old (see Figure 1).

More than 90% of the group expected to be married by age 40 and 88% expected to own their own home by age 40. Eighty-two percent expected to vote regularly and half expected to own their own business by age 40. Thirty percent expected to have three or more children by age 40, and 5% said that they would have run for office by age 40.
